Leola Anderson, a lifelong St. Bernard Parish resident, holds a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, and a Bachelor's in Accounting from the University of New Orleans. She began her legal career in 2006, serving her community post-Hurricane Katrina.


With over a decade of legal practice, including roles at Goins Aaron, APLC, and Gertler Law Firm, Leola has received recognition as a Louisiana Rising Star lawyer, bringing a wealth of experience and integrety to her tireless pursuit of client success.

In our state, you only have one year to file suit for an injury or wrongful death claim due to an accident. This time limit is called the prescription period. While you do not need a police report after an accident, you will definitely wish you had one when filing your suit. Reports help to create a baseline recounting of the events that occurred, and to keep track of the accounts of each party. Without a police report, people can easily change their stories and drag out litigation.  If you can wait, get the police report.

Typically, you have one year from the date of the injury. So, if your injury occurred on May 24, 2024, you will have until May 24, 2025, to file your suit.  If you do not file a timely suit in the correct jurisdiction, then you forgo your rights to collect on possible damages.
